Liver tumors or especially metastases in the liver are a frequent occurrence of tumors. There has been developed a wide range of therapeutic options here. In addition to the mostly minimally invasive surgical removal, the local tumor regions are destroyed by heat (induced with frequencies or lasers). But also radiotherapy and systemic chemotherapy are regularly applied mostly in a combination of these methods. There is now an additional very interesting therapeutic option, namely local moderate hyperthermia (with temperature gradients in the range of normal fever). It is not so much about the direct destruction of malignant cells as it is about making the other therapy methods more effective. Hyperthermia is a potent enhancer of radiotherapy and many chemotherapeutic agents are also in synergy with local heat. Above all, however, hyperthermia is a procedure for strengthening one's own immune system. Unlike many other therapeutic options, hyperthermia, when used properly, does not produce any relevant negative side effects.
Similarly, the importance of hyperthermia in the treatment of liver tumors is still not widespread despite good results. Reason to create a so-called white paper that provides therapists with background information. It deals with the temperatures to be achieved and presents the results of various studies, referring to the study literature on the topic, giving detailed information on the protocols to be used, giving practical advice on the method of application and finally presenting some case studies. Hyperthermia is also of particular interest in cases where there are too many and / or too many tumor lesions in the liver to be able to operate efficiently.
Although the White Paper Hyperthermia in liver tumors is primarily aimed at therapists, it is also an interesting source of information for the ever-increasing proportion of "mature patients".
